frequently asked questions about pigs
Our pigs do not receive antibiotics or vaccinations. One of the benefits of rational-grazing is a reduced parasite load, which prevents many sicknesses that other conventional producers might encounter from confinement.
In the event that one of our pigs did become sick we would take the necessary measures to nurse the pig back to health and remove it from our food system if medication was administered.
Our pigs are raised on pasture and spend their days eating a diverse diet of plants and insects. You will find them rooting and foraging in the pasture which in turn reduces grain requirements. Unlike many traditional producers, they are not confined to barns and are able to truly express themselves. They are exposed to sunshine and can run, jump and exercise. This results in healthier animals and a nutritious food for people as well.
We do offer whole and half pig shares. We also understand that the amount of meat that comes with buying a whole or half pig is too much for some families with limited freezer space. Selling by the cut, such as single packages of bacon, breakfast sausage or ham, is another option we offer. Please contact us for availability and further information.
